Two new songs from Arcade Fire

Arcade Fire are to release a new album later during 2010. The band has made available the preview "teasers" of two of the songs to be included on their new album.

Meanwhile, two of our favorite bands, the !!! and Arcade Fire announced their new LPs dates. Both bands will release their new LP on August 23. Check out our calendar on the side of the blog for more details.

From podcast to broadcast

Hi all!

First of all, there's an important announcement to make about the blog. As you may have already noticed the April's podcast never came out. To be honest this happened because even though the track list is there waiting, there was no time at all for me to prepare, record and upload it. You see, my Operating System is Linux and, unfortunatelly, the audio tools for Linux are not on the level of the equivalent software that is available for Mac and Windows. So, on Linux, tasks like recording a podcast, believe me, are time consuming, difficult and some times irritating.

As we didn't manage to upload a podcast this month and because I work as freelancer and my free time is not standard, I can't be sure that I'll be able to be consistent on this monthly date of ours. Instead I decided to ask from my dear friends on postradio web radio (www.postradio.gr) to provide some time of their weekly schedule and start a new show presenting all the music and all the songs that we love, here on tradsmusic. So it happened and we move from podcast to broadcast and tradsmusic has its own radio show on postradio twice a week.

On this show you will listen only to music. No blah blah, no commercials, no nothing but music. All of the songs presented on this show are taken from the latest indie releases of all subgenres. And by "latest releases" I mean releases that begin from the second half of 2009 and end to the very same day that you will listen to the show. Of course, the playlist will be updated and as we move on on 2010 the oldest songs will be discarded and new songs will take their place, keeping the music 100% up to date.

The tradsmusic picks is scheduled for
Every Tuesday and Thursday on:
- UTC time: 15:00
- For Greece: 18:00
- For Brussels, Milan and Berlin: 17:00
- For London: 16:00
- For New York: 11:00
- For Los Angeles: 8:00
- For Melburne: 1:00 (the next day...)

Bye for now. I hope you'll enjoy the show.

Muse new song "Neutron star collision"

Muse just finished and made available their new song titled "Neutorn star collision" that is going be part of the soundtrack of the movie "Twilight saga: Eclipse".

The song is on the radio since Monday (16 of May) and is available as an immediate bonus download if you pre-order the soundtrack through the official website.

Listen to it:

Arcade Fire to release new single

Via a short message posted on the band's official web site, Arcade Fire informed the fans that are to release a new single during the next couple of weeks. Let me remind you that the Canadian indie rock band's latest release was on 2007 (Neon Bible).

A full LP is expected to be released later during 2010. The exact message on the band's web site is the following:

"Just finishing up pressing our new 12-inch. Should be in stores in the next couple weeks. God willing."

Underworld's new song "Scribble" available for download

Don't miss it. Underworld return after almost three years and give to their fans the oportunity to download for free the brand new song "Scribble" right from the band's official web site.

So, click here, register and download. 100% worths your time and attention.

MIA's video Born Free that was banned from youtube

MIA has said about this video: "It baffles me that everyone seems to be obsessed with deciphering the meaning to it. It baffles me in the same way as the Brick Lane riot for American Apparel leggings baffled me. We don't know what the process is for this one is yet. I haven't thought about it yet and I don't want to have to."

Nicole Fiorentino, the new bassist of Smashing Pumpkins

The Smashing Pumpkins bass has never been held by a male since now and it seems that it will never be. The new bass player is, again, a lady and her name is Nicole Fiorentino.

Fiorentino follows, on the SM bass, the original member D'arcy and her successor, Melissa Auf der Maur.

I don't know how well the new bassist will fit the band. What I can tell for sure is that Nicole 100% has the looks. Either way, the latest years, the phenomenal America's band's problem wasn't neither the looks nor the bassist. It is the lack of inspiration and the missing Billy Corgan's angel-devil's voice and feeling that we used to adore during the good old days of the band (especially during the early 90s).

Anyway, I still am a huge fan of the band and I wish that this small change will push the band forward. Good luck Nicole!

Friendly Fires about MGMT

Friendly Fires are currently working on their new album follow-up to their 2008 self-titled album. During an interview about their new album, on Daily Record, the band's guitarist Edd Gibson said:

"I really hope we are not going to do what MGMT did. Whatever it is they have done, we want to steer well clear of it. I don't understand why they would make such a leap, go from great pop songs to just any old acoustic music played in anyone's bedroom."

MGMT's album "Congratulations" is currently number 18 on the Billboard and number 19 on the official UK charts.

May, the releases month

May is, for sure, the most productive month of the year until now. As you can always find out on our calendar on the sidebar of the blog, during May we are expecting many and very interesting releases from great bands.

11 of May:

Brandon Flowers becomes the second Killers member to release album outside the band

A few days before we were informed that the Killers' drummer Ronnie Vannucci is set to release an album with members of Mumford and Sons, Keane and Noah And The Whale, under the name Mt Desolation.

What we didn't know is that the band's vocalist Brandon Flowers goes solo too, as he has confirmed he is set to release his debut solo album and it will be called 'Flamingo'.

Don't worry, for now, this doesn't mean that the Killers are breaking up, as none of the two is officially leaving the band. The truth is that the Killers seem to be in strange phase of their career as, during the last months, all of the band's members seem to be exhausted from the non-stop live tours, shows and recordings. In our opinion, the two band members just have a creative break from the Killers project that will bring in fresh passion and ideas when the time is right.

Is Congratulations a grower?

It was only two days ago, on this post, when we discussed about MGMT's new album "Congratulations". Our point was that, even though initially the album didn't live us the best possible impressions, it seems to be an album that needs some extra time in order to speak to our minds and hearts.

Bruce VanWyngarden, father of frontman Andrew, totally agrees with that. The very next day of our post Bruce VanWyngarden wrote on his Memphis Flyer blog:
"'Congratulations', MGMTs second album, is dense, lush, textured, difficult in places, absolutely euphoria-inducing in others. It is, as they say in the music business, a 'grower' — that is, repeated listens reveal more depth and complexity. The lyrics blossom and begin to live in your head. The songs become earworms. It was the second-best selling album in the US last week. So yeah, I'm proud of my son."

So, we both agree the album is a "grower", though I must admit that we probably both love the band a little too much :)

Give us a feedback on this one. Seems to be interesting.

April, MGMT and reviewers

April is almost over and, I suppose, it's time to talk about the albums released during it. Of course we are already preparing April's podcast where we will discuss and listen to some songs from the month's releases, though let's make a brief sum of this month's production.

The albums that surprised us this month are two: "Tommy" from Dosh and "Crystal Castles" from Crystal Castles [released only digitally. Official release later during 2010]. Two totally different albums, coming from totally different music genres, though with one thing in common: the psychedelia. Both bands brought us exactly what we've been expecting for. Same old GOOD Dosh and same old NICE Crystal Castles gave to their fans a strong dose of exactly the sound in which they are addicted to.

An album that really disappointed me (of course is always a matter of taste) is my favorite's MGMT "Congratulations". After the breath taking first album "Time to pretend" (one of the best and most important albums of the last decade that initiated and installed the sound and style that many other bands like "Empire of the Sun", "Passion Pit" and others followed later on) MGMT returned with their second album "Congratulations". In our opinion "Congratulations" do not really deserve congratulations, as the album lacks of the top-level inspiration and atmosphere found on the band's first one.

Here, I would like to mention something relevant. Sometimes, people, like me, professionals or not, people that review albums, or just state in public their opinion about LPs, in their hurry to review first or immediately all the latest releases, do not give the required time and space to some "strange" LPs that need more than the average time to speak to their minds and hearts. I have the feeling that MGMT's "Congratulations" might belong to this kind of albums. So, even though initially my impressions about the album are not the best I will insist listening to it during the following month, just in case. When it comes to MGMT you never know...I'll let you know.

The rest of the releases, along with comments and some blah blah will be presented on our upcoming podcast. Stay tunned.

P.S.: A great THANKS to the USA visitors that, according to my google analytics account are the most fanatic tradsmusic readers. Thanks folks!

Participate on Johnny Cash new video

First of all, sorry for my 3 days absence but I was away, following my favorite football team (ARIS THESSALONIKI) on the final of the Greek Cup. Unfortunately we didn't manage to win the cup but it was a great experience as 25.000 fans of the team moved from Thessaloniki to Athens (at about 500 km) mainly by cars and buses suprising the whole country.

Any way, "let's go back to the rock", like Apollo 440 used to say on one of their songs with very interesting news.

Johnny Cash comes with an excellent idea for his new video for the song 'Ain't no grave' included on his last LP and which we have included on March's podcast.

The idea is simple. Each one of Johnny Cash's fans can create (by the use of provided tools on the project's website) a single video frame. Don't worry, this won't lead to epilepsy as there are certain templates that you can use and certain rules that you should follow, in a way that the final result is, really, solid, consistent and beautiful!

To take an idea about the video project and for your participation on it you can follow this link.

Interesting collaboration between 4 groups

Mt Desolation is the name of a very interesting band consisting of members of 4 different groups.
The band features The Killers' drummer Ronnie Vannucci, Noah And The Whale fiddle player Tom Hobden, banjo player Winston Marshall of Mumford and Sons and Keane's keyboard player/songwriter Tim Rice-Oxley, plus live bassist Jesse Quin.

The new band has already recorded an album of country songs which is going to be released sometime during this year.

Interesting, isn't it?

Blur new song "Fool's day" made available for download

Blur’s new song Fool’s Day recorded especially for Record Store Day has sold out on limited edition 7 inch vinyl record. Fool’s Day was available across the UK at independent music retailers participating in Record Store Day. 1000 7 inch vinyl copies were pressed.

Blur’s manager Chris Morrison has said it is important that the song was made available to fans legally. "To avoid fans having to illegally obtain an inferior copy of this track from pirate sites – we have made it freely available through the band’s website".
Go to http://www.blur.co.uk/ to download your free copy.

We're here

Nothing is really going on the last few days and that's the reason you haven't heard from us.

The most important news of the last days is about Blur. The British band is going to release a new album (the last one was on 2003). The story begins from the Blur's participation on Record Store Day by the release of a limited edition EP containing a couple of new songs. It seems that the band's members remembered the good old days and decided to get into the studio and start recording a brand new album.

This was the good news. Unfortunately, we have some bad news to. "You say Party! We Say Die!", 30 years old, drummer Devon Clifford passed away after collapsing during the band's gig in Vancouver on Friday.
A tribute from the band's record label Paper Bag has since been released, saying:
"It is with absolute sadness to report that our dear friend Devon Clifford passed away just hours ago in a Vancouver hospital surrounded by his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by everyone who knew him. I request that we respect the family's privacy during this incredibly difficult time."
